GIS XXI: 56% of Venezuelan voters favor Hugo Chavez

Caracas, 08 Ago. AVN.- The latest survey conducted by polling firm GIS XXI reported that voting intention for socialist presidential candidate Hugo Chavez rates 56 percent, while for rightist hopeful Henrique Capriles it rates 30 percent.

GIS XXI director Jesse Chacon said the above information in a press conference held Wednesday and he detailed that the fieldwork for the poll was conducted on July 26 through August 2 among 2,500 people in different states of the country, with a margin of error of 2.0 percent.

The poll was conducted a month after the launching of the election campaign for the upcoming presidential election in Venezuela, next October 7.

Those polled were also asked whether they had plenty of information about political parties and their presidential hopefuls or if the election campaign has provided them with new information about such issues.

In this connection, 50 percent of those polled said they have plenty of information and 39 percent said the election campaign has provided enough new information about political parties and candidates.

"Venezuela is under a very polarized society, where people discuss about politics in every moment. This is a very particular aspect compared to all societies in Latin America," said Jesse Chacon.
