History shows we were right, Chavez says

Caracas, 04 Feb. AVN.- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez paid homage Saturday to the young people who participated with him in the military uprising on February 04th, 1992: "Weaponry to defend the Revolution, to defend people, not to serve the oligarchy nor the imperialism, freeing weaponry in hands of freeing soldiers... I owe you everything, that was the path, boys, that of the Revolution together with people. That was the path. History will absolve us; history will show we were right. It has always showed we were right."

The Venezuelan President said the special recognition minutes after being formally requested, on behalf of General Cliver Alcala Cordones, to allow the beginning of a parade to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the uprising.

"Here are the captains, majors, lieutenants of that day, soldiers of the homeland. My memory and recognition for you boys, which will be eternal for all of you, for that sacrifice. The word sacrifice is originated in the word sacer, 'sacred,' and facere 'to do, perform'," Chavez added.

Referring to the purpose which encouraged that uprising, Chavez also talked to today's Bolivarian National Armed Force, calling it to be loyal to the social service and "not to be never ever like those generals who ordered to massacre the people, one and 100 times."

"Your soldiers, dear people, will never ride roughshod over you," President Chavez said.
