Venezuela appoints team to help rain victims in Peru

Caracas, 20 Mar. AVN.- Venezuela is preparing a multidisciplinary technical team to support the victims of the rains in Peru, said Saturday President Nicolas Maduro, adding that they are just waiting for the government of that country to approve the assistance of the national technicians.

"Today (Saturday) we saw some very painful images of what is happening in Peru, a natural disaster, as result of climate change imposed by a capitalism that has destroyed the planet. The Peruvian people are suffering terrible rains that have taken the lives of Peruvian brothers," he regretted.

He said he gave the order to Foreign Affairs Minister Delcy Rodriguez, to coordinate with the Peruvian government the assistance of Venezuelan specialists.

"Venezuela is ready with its team, its doctors, its rescuers, its solidarity to go to support the Peruvian people, we're just lacking the authorization and direct coordination of that nation's government," he said.

Likewise, Maduro asked foreign minister to organize joint solidarity actions along with the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and the Bolivarian Alliance for the peoples of our America (ALBA) to send humanitarian aid to the people of Peru, which has been seen severely affected by the heavy rains that have caused, since the beginning of the year, overflowing rivers and landslides.

Among the most affected regions are Piura, Tumbes and Lambayeque, in northern Peru, with more than 300,000 people affected and eight deaths so far this year, as well as 7,974 homes collapsed, 1,231 kilometers of destroyed roads and 19 collapsed schools across the country.

In total, 62 people are dead, 11 missing and more than 70,000 homeless.
