Venezuela proposes Petrocaribe exclusive zone

Caracas, 11 Ene. AVN.- Creating a special working group to study the creation of an exclusive economic zone for Petrocaribe, beyond mere oil exchange, which may be extended to the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) and complement these economies, proposed Thursday the president of Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA, Rafael Ramirez.

In a joint meeting Petrocaribe-ALBA, held in Caracas, Ramirez proposed the working group to be coordinated by the Petrocaribe secretary, which may have drafted the proposal in about three months for its approval.

There has been submitted to the member states of these two organs a document to identify productive sectors as in Venezuela as in countries of the Caribbean and Central America, informed Ramirez.

"We have been working on the identification of our needs, coordinating and interacting for exchange," he stressed.

In addition, he said there is another proposal which envisages two modes of direct, multiple participation, by means of productive connection among countries.

The PDVSA president also stressed that they have identified a way to increase exchange and special economic conditions to create this. "It's an issue which shall be approved by Heads of State and Government."

In the next summit, he said, there would be ready a document regarding the supply of fertilizers through the initiative ALBA-Food.

"It is an activity which we have been carrying out and which shall be formalized," Ramirez said.
