Venezuela's Armed Force will never betray its people, Chavez said

Caracas, 04 Feb. AVN.- The Bolivarian National Armed Force will never again "be like those generals who ordered to massacre the people, one and one hundred times," stated Saturday the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, in Los Proceres Avenue, Caracas.

"Your soldiers, my people, will never ride roughshod over you," promised the President, who headed a parade carried out to commemorate the 20th anniversary of a military uprising staged in 1992 against the Carlos Andres Perez Administration, which had implemented aggressive neoliberal measures that seriously affected the people.

Chavez, who assumed the responsibility for the 1992 upraising, paid homage to the young people who took part with him in the rebellion, for having used firearms "to defend people, not to serve the oligarchy nor the imperialism, freeing weaponry in hands of freeing soldiers."

"I owe you everything, that was the path, boys, that of the Revolution together with people. That was the path. History will absolve us; history will show we were right. It has always showed we were right," Chavez said from the president's box, where he was accompanied by his counterparts from Bolivia, Evo Morales; Cuba, Raul Castro; Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega; and Haiti, Michel Martelly.

"There are the captains, majors, lieutenants of that day, soldiers of the homeland. My memory and recognition for you boys, which will be eternal for all of you, for that sacrifice. The word sacrifice is originated in the word sacer, 'sacred,' and facere 'to do, perform'," he added.

Pro-Chavez Armed Force

During his speech, the Venezuelan President reaffirmed that the Bolivarian National Armed Force "is pro-Chavez, whoever takes offense at it, whatever they say."

Chavez said the statement to reply the criticism on behalf of right-wing sectors, appeared some days ago, after the President said that soldiers defend the Bolivarian Project.

"As I said two days ago, I say it again, and with my truth, as Artigas said, I do not offend neither I am afraid. As here in may heart is the homeland and the Venezuelan people, also is the Venezuelan Armed Force because I am, in essence, a soldier of the homeland," Chavez said.

The President explained that "when I say pro-Chavez, I am taking a popular expression because the essence of the pro-Chavez movement is everywhere."

He took advantage of the opportunity to address the high-ranking military command and call them to continue on the alert "because it is our duty, together with the people, to continue ensuring national independence and the building of socialism."

A great parade

During the event, which counted with the attendance of the different bodies of the Armed Force, stands throughout the Avenue remained full of thousand of citizens who came from several states of the country, most of them wearing red cloths, jackets with the colors of the national flag, to honor a date which marked Venezuela's history and led the country to a change of political and economic structures.

At the end of the civil military parade, President Chavez paid homage to aboriginal armies in Latin America, who were commanded by natives of the region to fight the occupation and he praised the work carried out by organizers of the event, which he estimated as "decent and in the line with the fact we commemorate today."

Minutes before leaving to the Miraflores Presidential Palace to host the 11th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), the Venezuelan President called to "take a step forward, with the memory of our dead people within ourselves and with those who gave their life for this Revolution and who continue fighting for it."
