Colombian Foreign Minister visits Venezuela to set working commissions
HOLGUIN-MADURO

Caracas, 20 Ago. AVN .- Venezuela"s Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro received on Thursday night Colombia"s Maria Holguin, who is visiting the country with the aim to set working commissions between the two nations.

Foreign Minister Holguin heads a delegation made by Colombia"s ministers of Defense, Rodrigo Rivera; Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Sergio Diaz; and Transport, German Cardona.

“I am very optimistic and very pleased because we are able to begin all the commissions at the same time. Eight days ago, we had planned to hold a meeting of foreign ministers first and then set the commissions. I think the dialog with Minister Maduro this week was productive insofar as we will begin all of it at the same time,” expressed Holguin.

Similarly, Colombia"s Foreign Minister described as significant this encounter, since it will strengthen relations between Venezuela and Colombia.

“I am convinced about that this will progress gradually, that we have to generate confidence so that this will be a long-lasting relation. I am optimistic and, in fact, I am very pleased,” she said.

Besides, Holguin explained that the first objective is to have a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart in order to finalize the details of the encounter.

“The debt commission will be very specific. The idea is to find how to create a mechanism through which Venezuela"s Commission for the Administration of Currency Exchange (Cadivi) can answer the overall Colombian business sector, effortlessly, with a scheme of payments.”

Concerning the rest of the agenda, Holguin commented that “there are some projects in the infrastructure field that President Chavez already mentioned to us during the Santa Marta meeting. So, it will deal with the issue of bridges in the frontier and some projects between Ecopetrol and PDVSA.”

Finally, she commented that Venezuela had already been requested approval of Fernando Batistuta as new Colombia"s Ambassador to Caracas.
