Caracas, 20 Ago. AVN .- Caracas, 20 Ago. AVN .- The Bill on Disarm and Ammunition Control that is being drafted by the Permanent Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly is a legal instrument aimed at strengthening the battle against insecurity. This issue has been responsibly assumed by the Government and used irresponsibly by the opposition as a political flag for the upcoming parliamentarian elections.
The President of said Committee, Juan Jose Mendoza, explained that the Law would regulate the disarming process and the mechanisms to disarm, recover and control the ammunitions and weapons that are legal or illegally found in Venezuelan territory.
The deputy made emphasis on Bolivarian Government"s will to improve public safety, evidenced with the activation of new security organs, purging existing ones and passing laws about a subject that was not taken into account by the Parliament since 1939.
Mendoza condemned the use of public safety issues as a political flag in an irresponsible manner by the opposition sector, as they have already done in the past with other social issues.
In this regard, he recalled that one of the reasons there are thousands of illegal weapons in Venezuela is because before 1998, the country had more than 4,000 gun shops bringing to Venezuela guns with no kind of control or registration. This irregularity has been corrected and controlled by the current Government.
The disarming bill has been drafted through work tables composed of representatives from the Committee on Defense; Direction of Arms and Explosives of the Defense Ministry; Public Ministry; Solicitor General"s Office; and the Bolivarian National Guard.
The bill was approved in its first discussion few months ago by the plenary of the Parliament. The second and, the final, third debates are expected to be held in the second legislative-term of 2010.
